Software Ethics & Development Transparency
At Quasi Penguin, the philosophy is simple: software should belong to the people who buy it. As a solo indie developer, my goal is to build high-quality games and applications that respect the user. That means building experiences ranging from Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) to Native Apps with a strict set of core values:
True Ownership:
No micro-transactions, no in-game ads, and no subscription traps. You buy the game, you own the game.
Local-First Design:
Software is built to run offline and store user data entirely on your device whenever possible.
Network Independence:
Multiplayer or networked games are designed with a fallback to Local Area Network (LAN) play. If a server support ends, your game keeps working.
To achieve the scale, polish, and creative vision of a full studio as a single developer, I utilize a carefully selected stack of Artificial Intelligence tools alongside traditional open-source software. AI is used ethically as a tool to upscale my creativity, allowing me to build better games for the people who play them.
The Toolkit & Licensing
Quasi Penguin is highly selective about the AI platforms are integrated into our pipeline, choosing them specifically for their legal licensing models, which grant clear commercial rights and protect the integrity of the final software.
- The Google AI Suite: (Including Gemini Advanced, NotebookLM, and Google Flow) Used extensively across code generation, writing, image creation, and music/sound generation.
- Anthropic's Claude & OpenAI's ChatGPT: Utilized for generalized brainstorming, language structuring, and complex code iteration.
- ElevenLabs: Used strictly for generated voice work and specific sound effects (never for music).
- Firebase Studio: My primary infrastructure and coding platform.
- Traditional Editing: GIMP, Audacity, and Melodyne.
The "Human-in-the-Loop" Architecture
AI does not make our games; I do. Quasi Pegnuin is the designer, architect, and director. Every project begins with our own original ideas. We use AI to generate raw materials, which we then manually compile, edit, debug, and build by hand.
Visual Art & Assets
AI is a collaborator, not a replacement. Quasi Penguin frequently uses our own hand-drawn sketches as seed prompts to guide image generation. Once a raw background or asset sheet is generated, it goes into GIMP. I meticulously cut, edit, resize, and manually arrange the assets to fit my exact visual specifications before they ever reach the game engine.
Audio & Sound Design
We utilize Google's suite and ElevenLabs to generate raw audio files, voices, and sound effects. They are imported into Audacity and Melodyne, where they are manually pitch-correct, slice, iterate, and mix the sound design to perfectly match the atmosphere of the game.
Code & Engineering
I am a self-taught developer who learns by building. While I use AI to help write, structure, and troubleshoot code, I act as the lead architect. Every line of code, whether it is for a local PWA or a native app, is iteratively tested, debugged, and compiled by me to ensure it meets our strict standards for data security and offline, local-first performance.
There are no secrets in our development process. If you are using Quasi Penguin software, you are experiencing a handcrafted digital project built with modern tools, radical transparency, and human intent.
